Marvel Bar – Minneapolis

December 10, 2011 in Food

We’ve been off for a bit traveling. Hence the lack of recent posts.

We were in Minneapolis this weekend to check out apartments and finalize things for the move. Our excellent realtor gave us a few tips on places to eat.

Marvel Bar was one in particular. The Dayton sons started this place in August as a modern ‘speak-easy.’ it’s a bit hidden below the newly opened Bachelor Farmer restaurant. But it’s worth looking like a fool to find the place. There is a great ambiance and the drinks are exceptional.
Just head there early so you’re not stuck in the cold waiting for a table.

A very veggie Thanksgiving

November 25, 2011 in Food

Happy Thanksgiving to all! And now a Happy Black Friday…

For our feast this year we went strictly vegetarian borrowing heavily from this NY Times Blog’s vegetarian menu.

Everything was delicious but our favorite preparations were the stir-fryed brussel sprouts and the squash/green bean salad.

We paired everything with lefse (see: making lefse), champagne and some wonderful red wine. But we definitely missed the gravy…

Russian River Brewing Co.

November 23, 2011 in Food

We took a small detour during our Thanksgiving festivities to try the many award-winning beers at the Russian River micro-brewery. They are most well known for Pliny the Elder, a double IPA, and their sour beers.

We opted for a taste of everything and ordered their sampling platter – 15$ for all 15 of their beers on tap (2 oz  of each).

Our favorites:

#1 – Defenestration – a Belgian Blonde Ale

#2 – Damnation Batch 23 – Oak Aged Belgian Ale

#3 – Pliny the Elder – California double IPA
